So much happens on a daily basis that I’m suddenly sitting here, realizing that he’s already 15 weeks old and I haven’t blogged his milestones! Not good … bad mummy! I read other blogs (like Tessa’s) and kick myself that I haven’t made time for this. I really enjoyed posting updates to his “pre-natal” blog, but I had a lot more time then. Oh well, enough mummy-bashing – time to get down to business …
Nicholas turned 15 weeks on Friday (11/10) and when we weighed him on Monday (11/06) he was less than an ounce shy of 18 lbs – apparently we grow ’em big! He was 24.5 inches for quite a while, but has suddenly jumped to 26 inches. He’s going through clothes faster than I can buy them (thanx, craigslist). Get this … he’s already wearing 6-9 month size!
In the last week, he’s figured out that his thumb separates from the rest of his hand, so now he can suck it without having to ram his entire fist into his mouth. I wasn’t sure whether to discourage the behaviour, but my gutsays to avoid a pacifier at all costs. Mum asked a dentist for his opinion – he said that it doesn’t negatively impact baby’s first teeth – it only becomes an issue if it continues with their “adult” teeth. Funny thing – he’s a better latcher because of it. I used to correct his bottom lip when he was breastfeeding (he would suck it in), but since figuring out how to suck his thumb, I haven’t had to correct him on the boob … not once. Very interesting!
He hasn’t tried rolling over, from back or front. He doesn’t wiggle around as much as other babies his age, either, but I think that’s because he’s so heavy. He really doesn’t like “tummy time”. His legs are huge (we call them tree trunks) and he’s able to hold his weight on them. It might be time for the Jolly Jumper. Our chiropractor recommended against using it too soon, but at our next visit (end of the month), I’m hoping he’ll give us the green light. I think Nicholas will really enjoy it – he loves jumping in our laps.
He has the most infectious laugh and the cutest dimples (gush, gush – hey, I’m supposed to!) and I love him to bits!
