Baby’s First Christmas Eve … what a magical time … and they say it only gets better each year as he becomes aware of what’s happening around him.
Nicholas joined us (Mummy, Daddy, Nana, Grandma, and Grandpa) in the midnight service at St John’s – he was very quiet, except when he decided it was time for a midnight snack and when the folks in the pew behind us smiled and chatted with him … social butterfly that he is, he just HAD to smile and chat back. He had his cheeks pinched, his hands held, and his hair gently stroked. Babies have such a way of brining out the softest part of a person, no matter how gruff they might appear.
When we arrived back at Grandma & Grandpa’s house, we all sat down to a bowl of yummy trifle, a glass of egg nog, and the new family tradition … the reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ by Daddy. Nicholas was enchanted by the story and stared at Patrick for the whole thing! We’ve read to him before, but he usually loses interest. Not this time. The expression on his face when he watches his dad is priceless. I’m so glad they’ve had a chance to bond in these last few months.
And then it was off to bed to rest up for … my birthday! (Shameless plug for little old me.)
