We went out last night. Without Nicholas. We spent 4.5 hours away from him, entrusting him to friends with an 18-month old (who felt just a little jealous of the attention he was getting from her parents). I only called home once, and of course everything was just fine. We were half-way home, when the “are you coming home soon?” call came in – talk about good timing! And then, by the time we got home, he was completely calm again.
We learned from this experience that he’ll drink breastmilk that has been refrigerated, but not frozen. I wanted to know why, so I tasted it – it had taken on a metallic taste, so I did some research and learned that I have an excess of the lipase enzyme in my milk. The milk had only been frozen for 2 months. Breastmilk can stay in the fridge for up to 7 days, so that’s the route we’ll have to go from now on.
The exciting part of our night out … yes, I fit into a slinky dress that I haven’t felt comfortable wearing for quite a few years because I weigh less than when I got pregnant … but even more exciting … we won the raffle draw again this year! Last year we won a fantastic digital camera package – this year we won the hockey package! Two nights in a suite at the Westin Grand, a $100 gift certificate at The Keg, and 2 tickets to a Canucks game. Woohoo! We’re sitting in the 16th row – great seats!!! And nothing beats a huge medium rare steak – a no-no during pregnancy, but OK now!
How did we celebrate? We bought a Nike Canucks sweatsuit and toque for Nicholas to wear to the game! Rob & Elaine gave us some baby earplugs to use if the noise bothers him. I sure hope he enjoys hockey as much as I do!
