Wow, the changes are going to come fast and furious now, aren’t they?!? We’ve had a pretty exciting couple of days around here. Many other kids we know have been eating cereal for a few weeks, but Nicholas hasn’t been showing any signs of being ready for food – he hasn’t been reaching for our food, sitting by himself, or showing dissatisfaction after breastfeeding. But, he is 6 months old now and his iron stores will start depleting, so yesterday we introduced him to rice cereal for the first time. We didn’t know what to expect, because we’ve heard so many horror stories about the first food experience. Come to think of it, we also heard tons of birthing horror stories and yet our experience was wonderful. In keeping with his introduction to the world, this new experience went wonderfully well. He really liked the cereal (My Organic Baby – Organic Brown Rice Baby Cereal) and ate all that we offered him. He’s not great at moving it back into his throat, but that will come with practice. When we fed him this morning, he couldn’t get enough of it! He was leaning forward in his highchair as far as he could, trying to get the next spoonful as soon as one was in his mouth, and finished it all in less than 5 minutes! What a great memory! I know Patrick is going to really enjoy introducing his son to his creations – he’s already talking about how soon we can start him on garlic!
