A daddy musing:
It’s great to have Paula and Nicholas home from their trip to Edmonton and Calgary. While they were away Paula tried Nicholas on Avocado.
Monday evening after our swimming lesson I stopped in at Planet Organic in PoCo to get a few Avocados to feed our hungry little man.
This morning, Paula stayed in bed (she’s not feeling well). So, after getting the two of us dressed and coffee into me I figured I’d try the Avocado. I cut it open and mashed it up, get Nicholas ready in the high chair, bib on, wet face cloth at the ready to wipe up any dribbles and we are set. This is certainly NOT my first time feeding him but after five days off I’m a titch out of practice.
I run through my check list again: coffee (for me – not him), food, spoon, bib, baby, highchair and cloth.
We are ready. He’s keen. I’m keen.
First spoonful …. pause…funny look. I can see the, “Hey Dad what’s this stuff?” expression cross his face. He smiles.. It’s okay…
Second spoonful … hey we are doing just fine… I realize it might be a bit too chunky, so I grab a fork and mash it a bit more. That’s better … more goes in … then … a long pause and he makes an odd face … Wait for it!!
AVOCADO everywhere…. It’s like some demented Andy Warhol art…
Nicholas has sprayed chunky green bits, the highchair is covered and I’m covered…
At first I’m in a bit of shock and disbelief.
Then I laugh, really hard.. and Nicholas … who in the past has screamed when I have laughed that hard… this time however, he starts laughing.. a big belly laugh (and you know he’s got a belly).
It was pretty funny. I couldn’t grab a camera because I had Avocado all over me and Paula was asleep, so that image has to stay painted or rather sneezed on to my brain.
I have to go and get the rest of the avocado out of my hair now!
