No luck on the 9-hour sleep last night. He joined us in bed at about 3am (waking us both from very deep sleeps) and then had a late sleep-in this morning (right to 8:30am). I know he doesn’t need to nurse in the night for nutrition, but if it works to help him sleep, I just have to hope that it’s not hurting him in any way. He’s had a bit of a diaper rash, so I guess there must be more teeth on their way. We’ll just have to sit this one through. Remember – this too shall pass!
With so much to write about yesterday, I didn’t mention the excitement of the day, so here’s a catch-up:
After another miserable night, my lovely little boy decided to show us that he’s still developing, without a problem, despite not being well rested. We met with a group of other mums and babes at the mall (none of us felt like walking in the rain). While we were there, he decided to climb up (with the help of a table) to standing for the first time! And I wasn’t even watching! He’s done it a few times at home now, though, so we have it on video. Then he also took his first two forward “steps” crawling (up until now he’s only gone in reverse). Again I wasn’t watching – doh!
What a week! Learning to sit. Learning to stand. Pushing out teeth. Learning to crawl. Somewhere in the last couple of weeks, he’s also become quite proficient at saying “mama” and “dada”, even though we’re not really sure that he’s associated them with us. And he can take a few steps while holding our hands. I know the changes can come fast and furious, but WOW! He’s so much older today than he was last week. How is this possible?!?
Shoot! The Canucks just got knocked out of the playoffs on a really stupid goal (Luongo let down his guard because he expected a penalty to be called on the play). Too bad – I was hoping theyd go at least one more round.
I’d like to go to bed, but Nicholas is still wide awake. He hasn’t been up this late in a long time. At least he’s not bothered by anything – he’s simply not tired. In fact, he’s wired! Not even nursing (twice) has helped him fall asleep. He’s happily sitting on the floor, waving a blanket around and chatting up a storm. Hopefully he decides to pack it in soon. On the other hand, if he’s up late tonight, he may sleep in later tomorrow – meaning, we’ll all get a nice sleep in. Please!
