We noticed some white spots on Nicholas’ teeth a week ago (we thought it might be fluorosis), so had them checked out today by a dentist we met through the Baby Talk group (Kathy Horwood). She reassured us that the discolouration we’re seeing is quite normal in baby teeth – these top 2 teeth formed at 4 months in utero and the enamel was completed at 1.5 months old, so the part of the teeth we’re seeing now would not be affected by the fluoridated toothpaste we’ve been using for the past 3 months. She reinforced the benefit of using a fluoridated toothpaste and supplementing with fluoride drops (not that I need any prompting – Patrick’s cavity-free mouth is proof enough for me). I forgot to take my camera, so no pictures (sorry). But this didn’t really count as his first “official” visit – that will happen when he’s 3 years old. Let’s hope he’s more willing to let her look inside his mouth then!
