Oh dear – I got a call from OG today that Mum was in the hospital, undergoing surgery on her finger. Apparently she was carrying a box of empty wine bottles to the car (to go bottling after work), when she glanced over at the empty highchair and lamented how quiet it was with us gone … she was distracted for a moment and tripped on the step. The box of bottles came crashing down and she landed on broken glass. When she looked at her hand, she thought a finger was missing, but it turned out to be “just” a severed tendon – a very serious injury. With a tea towel and some ice, she went off to the ER (silly woman) – isn’t it amazing how your mind can take charge in a crisis?! The tendon was sewn back together and her hand will be in a cast for a couple of weeks to help it stay still while it heals. She’s coming down to stay with us for a few days and her trip to England has to be cancelled. At least her flight can be used anytime in the next 12 months, so she hasn’t lost out completely. Yay for us – an unexpected visit!
