Nana arrived last night, after visiting the plastic surgeon and having her cast exchanged for a splint.
What a day! I woke up super early … before the alarm clocks (which were set for 7:30) – I didn’t want to waste a single minute of my special day! We had eggy French Toast with fresh fruit and then everyone got really busy doing stuff for my party. I just hung out and watched what was going on, getting excited by all the hustle and bustle. Grandma and Grandpa arrived late morning and were put to work right away … the clock was ticking! To get my energy up for the rest of the day, I had a 90-minute nap.
At 1:30, Mum and I headed over to the Social Room (we bumped into Uncle Mark and Jen in the parking lot). My friends started arriving (with their parents, of course) and I got to run around with one of my favourite walking toys … I even showed some people that I know how to take a few steps on my own now. Mostly I still find crawling is faster, but walking is kinda fun and everyone gets really excited when I do it.
My neighbours, Douglas and Cynthia, came in to sing me a blessing for my birthday. They were wearing the traditional outfits they use when they go to a Pow Wow – Douglas had a buffalo head and lots of eagle feathers. I loved playing with Cynthia’s rattle and I even tried to sing with them (but I didn’t know the words). It was a really neat memory and I’m so glad they came!
When it was time for cake, I was stripped down to my birthday suit (plus diaper) and sat in my highchair for the traditional “baby with cake all over my face” pictures. Thrifty’s gave us a free birthday cake because it’s my first birthday (they do that for all 1-year-olds, not just me) and Daddy baked special little cakes for the kids – organic carrot cake with our initials in cream cheese frosting on top. I loved my cake and tried to stuff the whole thing in my mouth at once … but it’s hard to chew like that , so most of it came back out and ended up on the floor. I’ll have to work on this eating skill.
Next, it was time to open some presents – I had lots of fun with this part of the day, tearing paper and exploring new toys, clothes, and books. I’m very grateful for them all and can’t wait to play, wear, or read them. I’m a very lucky little boy!
Everyone was getting tired (and the room was really hot) when it was time for the party to end. I was sad that it was over, but I was very ready for a sleep. After a good nap, it was time for our family dinner and some more presents. I had such a busy day! At 10:30pm, I still wasn’t ready to stop and go to sleep, but Mum decided that I was. I guess she was right, because I fell asleep after less than 3 minutes of complaining. I’m 1 now … wow, I feel so much older already!
