We had a great day at the park on Sunday, watching A Midsummer Night’s Dream – Nicholas actually watched the entire play! He doesn’t watch much TV at home, so I was surprised to see his interest. I guess there was enough action around the stage to keep his attention. The group putting on the play took full advantage of the bandshell and park setting and ran all around us. It was so much fun!
After the show, I wandered up on stage, holding one of Nicholas’ hand when he suddenly let go and just took off by himself! I was so excited, I started squealing! Everyone looked at me like I was nuts, but I didn’t care. He took about 15 not-so-wobbly steps before he hesitated and plopped down. Since then, he’s been walking all over the place, sometimes more wobbly than others.
Some things at home have to move up another foot now, because he’s starting to explore at his new height. We realized this when he scooped a bunch of dirt out of one of my planters that he’d never even seen before. He continues to work on his climbing skill, too. It makes Patrick quite nervous! I’m trying not to hover, but stay close enough to console him if/when he falls.
Here’s some video from his first day of walking (count them … 24 steps). This was the 2nd time he took so many steps in a row and by himself (the first time was about 5 minutes earlier).
