I’ve been getting nibbled quite a bit over the last week, so I was pretty sure there was another tooth about to pop out … sure enough it came through yesterday. He now has the bottom middle two and the top middle four (well, at least partially). Thank goodness for Camilia … he even knows it by name now and stops crying when we offer it to him. Especially useful at 3:30am when we’re both exhausted and he can’t be calmed by nursing alone.
Along with the new tooth came a new word … UH-OH! He is SO darn cute when he says it. Sometimes he doesn’t get it quite right … it might come out as uh-uh … bet it’s still pretty cute. I guess this is an expression I use frequently enough that he’s learned it … here starts the ultra-awareness of what we’re saying around him. Danika taught me that when she started saying “stinky bum” – something I didn’t realize I used that often until she suddenly started saying it. Nicholas was also paying attention the other day when I was teaching Danika about animal sounds. I had taught her the sounds a cow, pig, duck, and sheep make. At one point I asked her, “what does a cow say?” and Nicholas answered “mmmmmooo”. I was so stunned! I had no idea he’d even been listening, let alone learning it.
He’s getting pretty good at knowing what he should and shouldn’t pick up/eat off the floor – if he thinks he shouldn’t eat it, he’ll reach out to give it to me. I have to be quick, though, because if I’m not right there, it goes into the mouth! Not so good on a normal basis, but especially disgusting when I realized he had a cigarette butt at the park on Sunday. Message to the jackass who left the butt there – you are a prime example of why people have such contempt for smokers! I’ve seen many smokers take care to dispose of their butts responsibly, but I’ve also seen lots toss them out the car window or on the ground in a park. I’m way more sensitive to it now that I see the world from down low.
When we stopped by the Health Unit today for a quick visit, Nicholas had a blast playing with the Little Tikes Garden Centre … maybe I’ll have a look for one on craigslist. I’d like to find a little table and chairs set first, though, but there don’t seem to be many for sale.
